Korean Business Delegation Visits Tijuana Mexico
A delegation of 38 government officials and business leaders from the province of Gyeongnam, Korea visited Tijuana in a business mission to explore investment opportunities and learn first-hand about Tijuana´s 50 years of manufacturing experience. They visited Samsung´s operations, that has been in Tijuana for over 30 years and has over 2000 employees.
Tijuana EDC organized a business program attended by local business leaders, PROMEXICO federal agency, State of Baja California Economic Development agency and City of Tijuana representatives. The event was opened by a presentation of investment opportunities in manufacturing sectors like electronics, aerospace, automotive and their industrial supply needs.
During the presentation Tijuana EDC Chairman of the Board, Mr. David Mayagoitia, highlighted Tijuana´s new development supported by innovation and high technology programs fostered by the private sector and government incentives. He stressed the fact that Mexico became very attractive for Korean companies looking for manufacture to serve the US market given its condition as NAFTA member, and its proximity and labor cost advantages.
Korean presence is not a recent phenomenon in Tijuana industry, there are up to 40 established companies that represent 7% of foreign manufacturing companies in the city, amongst them are leaders like Samsung, Hyundai, Hanil, Sinil, DaiDong to mention a few.
